Hello,

Sorry if these have been asked or suggested before. I tried searching, but didn't see them asked yet..

I wish 1Chart produced charts or PDFs with...
  1. more page size options (adjustable page size, or page sizes other than Letter size)
  2. white text on black option (eg. inverse, or Dark Mode option)
  3. even larger fonts
  4. allow different text/measures within the same chart to have different fonts, font sizes, etc.
  5. different, even clearer, or easier to read fonts
  6. adjustable margins (eg. 0" margins)
  7. adjustable page width
  8. infinite page width (no page width)
  9. none, or hidden page breaks, or infinite page length (one long page, with no horizontal line)
  10. less whitespace
  11. even less Horizontal Spacing
  12. a wider left margin
  13. a left margin that doesn't change or shrink when Align Measures is On
  14. a left margin that didn't cause the 'o' in 'Intro' to get cut off and move to the next line when Align Measures is On
  15. Sticky Notes (drag and place, colour options, font/size options, etc.)
  16. BlueTurn or Bluetooth foot pedal control
  17. Duration option/definition, and automatic scrolling
  18. more header (and footer) options, sizes, white space options, layout options
  19. option to display 'Key' in a different or larger font, or a different location. Same for 'Subtitle', etc.
  20. option to add anything else to the header (eg. Capo 2)
Cheers

Thanks for the detailed list, @1KE. I think the only thing I'm not clear on is:
8. infinite page width (no page width)

...as in I'm not clear what the benefit of infinite scroll to the right is. But let me know!

Thanks for your reply.

...To avoid lines, and therefore, groups of measures from being interrupted by a margin and divided, spilling over onto the next line, which can spoil the visual presentation of a chart.

...because, unlike a novel or book, music charts are part communication... and part presentation for the sake of quickly and easily - in real-time - recognizing patterns if present.

...because some users may prefer certain lines to be presented a certain way (eg. with visual symmetry, line by line alignment, etc.), and because of the large amount of white space or kerning that 1Chart characters possess, compounded with the limited page or margin options (there's only one option: Letter size, 1" margins, etc.), thereby reaching the ends of lines frequently, and spoiling any desired symmetry or alignment.

This may also, or instead, be related to the amount of white space or kerning around 1Chart characters and symbols, plus the limited font size options, plus the limited page setup options.

Another way to explain, is it turns 1Chart into a computer screen instead of a document reader.

eg. If it is an app, on a screen, on an iPad, etc. and not a document or Pwhy are page breaks (and their associated horizontal line and white space...) added automatically? Why do lines automatically carry forward to the next line when they reach - not the limits of the iPad screen, but - the limits of an imaginary piece of paper? What do margins, or Letter-sized paper size have to do with me viewing a music chart on my iPad screen? Does that not defeat the advantage of going paperless, using an iPad, etc.?

eg. (I believe...) Microsoft Word, and maybe even Google Docs includes multiple page options, as well as page break-display options which may help describe what I mean.

That said, there is a practical use for margins or 'page size' on an iPad screen, such as, avoiding characters from being obscured, or controlling the display size or chart v. screen.

Perhaps, paper size should only be applied to the Print command, and a new, 'display' size or font size, or white space control could be introduced?

eg. Another music app I use allows pinch to zoom, auto-controlling, display size options, a wide variety of font sizes, font colours, paper colour, comment font colour, etc. so perhaps I'm spoiled by what I've gotten accustomed to elsewhere.

I know programming and app design is not magic, nor easy, and I recognize the ridiculousness of my list.

Sharing because I want to use it, and want it to succeed!

Cheers

Got it! Thanks for the explanation. Certainly understand regarding the distinction between on-screen and print presentations, and the benefits of symmetry.

  1. infinite page width (no page width)
  2. none, or hidden page breaks, or infinite page length (one long page, with no horizontal line)
eg. Google Docs has a nice way, and matching on/off button, for toggling 'Print layout' on (which is sort of how 1Chart looks all the time...) or off (clean look, no page breaks, no margins, one long page, etc.
